My clients, a.k.a. as Mom and Dad, wanted to move to a home where they could age in place. Gracefully, and more importantly in style! Enter this Mid Century M gem.
They had been moving towards a more modern aesthetic as they aged having spent 25+ years in a traditional center entrance colonial. Their only requirements for this home were water views, an attached two car garage and my mom wanted a “showstopping red shower”.
The bones were amazing - but the general layout lacked the enticements of a modern home: a very small master bath, even smaller master closet and a closed off kitchen.
We opened up the entire left side of the house to create an open floor plan complete with a custom chefs kitchen, dining area and two seating areas - one for enjoying the fireplace and TV, and one for relaxing and enjoying the view, and with some creative space planning were able to give them a truly spacious master bath - complete with that show stopping red shower - as well as a walk in master closet, all without adding any square footage.
The main bathroom in this stunning turn of the century home was stuck in the 80’s, which was bad enough, but it also had a tub which was leaking into the living room.
My clients wanted a space that was in keeping with the architecture and time period of their home, but had the benefits of modern technologies.
We combined traditional materials with modern amenities, a steam shower, and created a space that is the perfect balance of both old and new.
It was the kind of bathroom that hurt your eyes to look at, and to add insult to injury had a completely non functional layout.
My clients live on the water and love to boat. They wanted to feel the expansiveness and energy of the sea in their cozy bathroom. They wanted natural light to greet them every time they walked into the room.
We redesigned the space to allow for a much larger walk in shower, added functional storage where there was none, and placed an over-sized mirror opposite the bedroom’s large windows to reflect natural light into this windowless space.
My clients wanted a kitchen which would be the showpiece of their home. He loves to cook and personally selected all of the spaces high end and high functioning appliances.
After hiring another design firm to develop the overall floor plan and cabinet layout, but were unhappy when it came to the firm’s suggestions for finishing the space. I was brought on board to finish off the space with tile, colors, lighting and accessories. The resulting space is high functioning and exemplifies the clients' bright and modern personalities.
The original bathroom was blue and bland. Builder grade flooring and cabinetry brought no life to this small, windowless room. We upgraded the flooring, cabinetry and counter tops and added accessories with a slight nautical flair.
The finished space now has a warm and sophisticated look. The perfect Powder Bath for my clients and their guests.
My clients wanted a bathroom that combined rustic and refined with traditional and modern. They envisioned a spa-retreat that would simultaneously relax them and serve their day-to-day needs. The polar opposite to their original space which was builder beige, had a tiny dark shower and zero warmth.
We greatly enlarged the shower and added steam for the spa luxury that they craved. Glass panels bring in natural light and help to keep the shower integrated with the rest of the space. Radiant floor heat and a towel warmer combat chilly New England winter (and spring, and fall).
The traditional claw foot tub, and crystal chandelier were on her wish list and add feminine and whimsical touches. Stained glass accent tiles in watery hues bring peaceful color into to the space.
The final design element which ties it all together is a custom stencil on the walls. The combination of a metallic striée and baroque stencil sets this bathroom apart and perfectly combines the traditional and modern aesthetic the client desired.
The client now has a mini-resort, just steps away from their bedroom.
